Discoveries

We finally got a children's museum in Reno!!! This is long overdue! We bought a 12 month family pass, and it was well worth the money. Here, the kids are smelling various crops early settlers planted here.
There is a section about the history of mining. Here is a tire from one of the underground trucks. Brian told the kids this was a small one! (edit: Brian has since informed me that I am oh-so wrong about what he said and this is not from an undergroud truck, but rather from a surface one.... silly me!)
There are all kinds of hands on activities that teach children about Nevada. Also, it was interesting for all ages. There was something for everyone.
Including video games...
and a Morse code machine... sorry I'm sort of lame and don't know the word for that :) I probably should have read the sign.
A fake tree...
I love this picture of a giant magnifying glass.
There is an urban living section that teaches about green resources, electricity, and construction. Another really wonderful thing is that there are different props and activities in each room every day so you don't get bored of the same things.
Ekco is lighting up the n in the Reno sign.
There is a glass wall in the Picasso corner. This day was markers, but they also do paint... which is messier but more fun.
Still, the kids didn't think the markers were too shabby.
They got to make bracelets out of wires that entertained the adults for some time.
And the kids.
The unanimously favorite part, though, was the cloud climber. It is such an intricate jungle gym with clouds from the floor to the ceiling with rope around them so they don't fall off.
They climbed, and climbed, and climbed,
and climbed.
And when they were done, they raced boats along the mock Truckee River.
And got wet. Very wet.
There is a dark room with starts and fishing and caves. All in all, I am impressed and really happy to have this children's museum in town.
