Our second day in Eureka we woke early and went to Patrick's point to do some tide pooling at low tide. It yielded much to look at, but holy smokes was it scary. I'd say it might be wise to bring kids whom are a bit older than 1 and 4... even our 11-year-old struggled afterwards saying, "that was the scariest thing I've ever done." I replied that she needs to get out more :) It was difficult to walk on those slimy rocks, but was it ever impressive to see the vast array of wildlife clinging to the rocks while waiting for the tide to cover their homes with water once more. We saw countless starfish, mussels, clams, enemas, and the like. Plus, it was a beautifully shaded walk getting down to the rocky point. Kolton was not a super fan of this event, but we learned later that his backpack carrier was messed up so that might have been part of the problem. Still, it was very interesting and fun to hike down. Xiana was quite proud that she walked by herself up and down to the water.
He managed a few smiles after we got out of the wind... which was probably another frustration for this little guy.
It was absolutely beautiful!
This is the top right before you head down the rocks... steep slimy rocks at that.
Afterwards we drove a little farther up and spotted all of these elk... they were everywhere. It was great to see them chillin right on the side of the road.
That evening we looked at the beautiful Carson house which was built a long time ago... they don't do tours, but you can take pictures of the outside. We had a guest cameo of a little bird in the upper left hand corner. The dock was majestic with it's boats lining each side.
Unfortunately, I didn't think to bring the littles jackets so this excursion was short lived. We ate at a tasty restaurant overlooking the water and then headed back to our hotel.
