The great irony of our trip on the coast was that the farther south we went, the colder it got. Initially the forecast for Bodega Bay had been in the 90's which was unheard of. I've never seen it get so warm. Then it said 80's, then 70's, and by the time we got there it was 55 degrees outside. Thank heavens we brought warm clothes for Eureka (where we didn't need them)! We drove to the beach but only ventured out for two quick jaunts. Then we drove around and went to a nice seafood restaurant. There were great shells in these coves and we were protected from the wind. We hoped to see a whale at our first stop, but were happy with a sea lion braving the frigid waves. Brian spotted him as he swam closer to the shore.
We took a lot of pictures along the coastal roads... the scenery was absolutely breath taking.
At our second stop Brian and Kolton took a little nap in the car while I took the girls down to the beach. The waves were huge, crashing fiercely against the sand. And yet, these girls were all but oblivious to the water. Instead, Ekco scoured the sands for shells and Xiana filled her bucket with sand and beautiful rocks. It was a beautiful sight to see the magnanimous ocean behind them as they both determinedly worked on solitary little projects. It was cold, but it was beautiful. Also, because this was our last day of the trip, and we had spend many days on the ocean, nobody was particularly heartbroken about the weather (although this is the spot I'd hoped to swim a little...) Still, it was pretty glorious.
And I had to get a shot of Kolton's little friend. He spent much of the vacation chasing these seagulls around... that kid LOVES birds!!!
