Mom and dad went on a cruise right before his accident and brought back these souvenirs which are, of course, priceless. Another consolation prize was this little kitten we named Obsidian. One of the days that dad was in the hospital, the young woman watching our kids had ten kittens. It was perfect. The kids didn't even want us to pick them up despite having been gone for a long time! After getting home that day, emotionally worn, Kolton and Xiana begged to get one of the kittens. Kolton repeatedly asked, "mommy, kitten me? kitty cat me?" Brian was always the hold out where cats are concerned. He couldn't resist. A few weeks later, we went to get one and let Xiana pick her favorite one. So far, she's been a really good kitten. She's patient and feisty. Even though Kolton is really rough with her, he's her best friend because he plays with her nonstop. She chases him around the living room. I'm pretty sure she thinks they're equals. Xiana is a bit afraid of her. She runs from room to room screaming that the kitty is going to get her. She's learning though, and they're also beginning to get along pretty well. Every night, after the kids go to bed, Obsidian sits on my chest and purrs like crazy. I love everything about her except the litter box. We planned on having her spend her days outside and nights inside... so far that's not working out for us very well.

Splash pad
We only made it to the splash pad a couple of times this summer. Kolton was the perfect age for it, no longer timid about the water, eager to join his big sissy. Also, he's finally got some hair protecting that little scalp from the sun! He spent a lot of time completely soaked. He also spent a lot of time hanging from the concession stand running over to me periodically to, once more ask, "I pwease money, mommy?" That kid has the most wicked sweet tooth I've ever seen!
