What a privilege it was to listen to my dad being honored for his dedication to the community. Mom was given several awards on his behalf, including "the community service award." It was incredible to see, again, the diverse group of people he loved and served. In one of the prayers the presenter said, "we miss Nicholas Frey who was our hero." I couldn't agree more! Dad was never happier than when he was in the service of others. And he immensely enjoyed mingling with people of all faiths illustrating how humble, nonjudgmental, and compassionate he was. It was bittersweet to sit amongst strangers who loved him so dearly. Elder Keele sat with us and told us stories about how much his own sweet mother adored my dad. He said that she took copious notes and saved them from every talk she ever heard dad deliver. If you knew how often he spoke, you'd see this was no small task. President Johnson presented one of the awards and talked about how much dad loved his family, even when their lives weren't in line with is religious convictions. I hope that some day people will think a fraction as highly of me, as they all do of my dad. That will be an accomplishment!
